With nearly 30 years’ experience, this family-owned venture focuses on quality control, customer service and environmental responsibility. Victor Tachdjian, President, discusses the company’s secret to success in a highly competitive sector.
With a combined experience of over a century, the partners behind AMV Graphics have seen the print business evolve from a traditional, labor-intensive trade to a highly automated operation. A family-owned business set up in 1980, the company continues to adapt and expand, recently moving to new state-of-the-art facilities in Markham.
AMV Graphics offers a wide range of services, as President Victor Tachdjian explains: “We specialize in commercial offset printing and offer a wide range of related services. These include pre-press, color correcting and color proofing, as well as in-house finishing and fulfilment services, such as mailing and warehousing.”
One of the latest technologies AMV Graphics offers is short run digital, ideally suited to the personalization and cost control of short run orders. Another recent innovation is a print management program, introduced for the benefit of larger companies. “Many firms waste a lot of money when it comes to print,” Victor explains. “They print too much too often, then have to store the excess material or dispose of it at a later date. The result is costly to them and costly to the environment.
“Our new print management program guarantees less waste and more cost savings. Purchasers can simply order at short notice from our representatives and branches across the country. This reduces the quantities purchased, saves on storage and reduces costs dramatically. These days, with all companies looking to control and cut costs, this service can make a considerable difference to the bottom line.”
So what is the secret to AMV Graphics’ success? “We don’t just throw ink on paper,” says Victor. “We practice the art of lithography and our goal is print perfection. From management to staff, we really value our customers and take the utmost care with every project. ‘Putting people before print.’ That’s our motto.”
Like most printers, AMV Graphics has faced many challenges in recent years. One of the most significant, for the industry at large and for AMV in particular, is the constant effort to reduce the carbon footprint.
“Our future goals are focused largely on the environment,” says Victor. “Our challenge is to reduce our effect on the environment, and at the same time maintain the high quality of our print. How do we do this? We constantly advise print buyers that price should not always be the determining factor in the purchase decision. We source paper produced by responsible mills. And most recently, we’ve changed from traditional petroleum-based inks to linseed oil-based inks which are more environmentally friendly.”
AMV Graphics has been recognized many times within the print fraternity. In April of this year, the company became a member of the Rainforest Alliance and is now FSC certified.
“Putting the environment first is our main goal,” Victor concludes. “Being a responsible member of the business community and a good corporate neighbor will continue to set us apart.”
