Organizers of the Markham Space Race have announced the winners of the unique, province-wide contest. After reviewing growth plans of businesses from across Ontario, Flatline Solutions Inc. emerged as the winner of $50,000 furnished and wired office space for one year, in Markham. Flatline Solutions Inc. is a developer of energy-conservation technology. Flatline Solutions Inc. was voted Ontario’s small business deemed most likely to grow within the next year.
Rescue 7 Inc. of Markham and Valt.X Technologies of Toronto placed second and third in the contest, respectively. Rescue 7 Inc. received $18,000 and Valt.X $12,000 in business consulting and professional services designed to help accelerate the growth of their businesses, including: legal services from Wilson Vukelich LLP; financial services from The Insurers Financial Group, BDO Dunwoody LLP, Chartered Accountants and Advisors, Burns Hubley LLP, Chartered Accountants and Q1 Capital Partners; and human resources guidance from PiVotal Integrated HR Solutions.
“All three winners submitted an excellent growth plan and are clearly focused on bringing their businesses to the next level,” said Bob Glandfield, president and CEO of the Innovation Synergy Centre, at an awards ceremony, held November 23 at the Angus Glen Golf Club, to announce the winners. Featured at the event were outgoing Markham Mayor Don Cousens, popular Canadian journalist Arlene Bynon and a panel of CEOs of successful businesses.
Sponsored by Staples Business Depot, Sands Commercial Floor Coverings and Creechurch International Underwriters, the Markham Space Race was open to entrepreneurial companies across Ontario that have been in business for at least two years, have a minimum of three full-time employees and are IT or export-focused.

Launched in August, the Markham Space Race – organized through a partnership between the Town of Markham, the Innovation Synergy Centre in Markham (ISCM), Great West Life Realty Advisors, Jim Brown of Colliers International and FIT by Design – is a one-of-a-kind contest that was introduced to stimulate the growth of Ontario businesses and provide much-needed support for small companies, explain contest organizers.
