The Town of Markham and Wuhan, China signed a Sister City Agreement last month, the culmination of discussions that evolved since 2003. The Sister City Agreement means the two municipalities will continue to build partnerships while exploring investment, trade and education opportunities.
The Agreement calls for regular contact between the leaders and relevant departments of the two municipalities to facilitate consultations on exchanges, cooperation and other matters of common interest.
“This visit reflects Markham’s continuing international outreach program and builds on the ties to China enjoyed by so many of our residents,” said Markham Mayor Don Cousens.
Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, is located on the Yangtze River in central China and has a history dating back more than 3500 years. Today Wuhan is a modern centre of finance, industry, trade and science covering almost 8500 square kilometres and has a population of 7.8 million.
