Markham's Liberty Square Reaches Higher

You may have noticed the construction on the south side of Hwy. 7, across from the high school and Town offices. If you haven’t seen the construction, you’ll definitely notice the area when it’s finished.

Liberty Square is Markham’s newest “A” Class office/retail and residential complex being built by Liberty Development Corporation, one of York Region’s most established developers. The project is part of Phase I of Markham Centre, a new urban plan focused on improved transit, a more vibrant community and increased density through mixed-use developments.

This first class facility is a 280,000 square foot complex with 224,000 square feet of “A” Class office space and 56,000 square feet of ground floor retail amenities. Two stunning glass towers, the five-storey East Tower and the twelve-storey West Tower will rise above two other residential buildings. The West Tower, in fact, will be the tallest office building in York Region.

As the Markham area expands and more and more businesses start-up or re-locate to Markham, there’s a real need for classy commercial space. And, alongside this commercial development, it’s important to have places for those workers to live, shop, bike, walk, picnic and party. The Liberty Square development encapsulates many of these community necessities.

Liberty Square is located at Highway 7 and Warden Avenue with access to both Highways 407 and 404. The site is serviced by VIVA Transit and York Region Transit and has TTC access off Warden Avenue, with one bus to Finch Subway Station or the Unionville Go Train Station.

Commercial development has come a long way… and the Liberty buildings include many computer and environmental initiatives including fibre-optic cabling, electronic wiring, energy-conserving heating and cooling, and monitored security services.

Liberty Square has attracted several major companies including HSBC and will welcome many smaller retailers to its commercial ground-floor space. The southern view from the Town offices is changing and the new development will certainly add pizzazz and sparkle.
