Markham BizPal Launch Boosts Local Businesses

Starting and running a business in the Town of Markham is now easier, thanks to BizPaL – a free online business permit and licence service that saves time and helps entrepreneurs start up faster.

“We are excited to bring BizPaL to Markham,” says Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “In these tough economic times, we want to do everything we can to make it easier for people to start and continue their businesses. BizPaL cuts the ‘red tape’, helping entrepreneurs get the answers they need about permits and licences quickly and in one convenient place online.”

BizPaL is an innovative project that provides entrepreneurs with simplified access to the information regarding the permits and licences from all levels of government, which they need to establish and run their businesses.

Entrepreneurs need only answer a series of questions and BizPaL generates a customized list of all permits and licences required, as well as pertinent information such as fees, processing and renewals, contacts and links to sites with more information.

This unique partnership among federal, provincial, territorial, regional and local governments is designed to cut through the paperwork burden and red tape that small business owners encounter.

“Reducing the paperwork burden makes things easier on small businesses,” says the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism). “At a time of global economic uncertainty, we need to do everything we can to help Canadian businesses, especially small businesses, which create so many of our new jobs. BizPaL is a simple, cost-effective way to provide that kind of practical help.”

“Ontario needs to continue to build a strong economy in order to thrive in these challenging economic times. BizPaL is an important tool that entrepreneurs can use to get the permits they need to create businesses more easily and to build a stronger economy faster,” says Ted McMeekin, Ontario’s Minister of Government Services.

“BizPaL is a practical tool that will help Markham area entrepreneurs succeed,” says Regional Councillor Tony Wong. “It is also a great example of governments from all levels working together to help local businesses, and the economy, thrive.”
